BOMA is pleased to announce that our March Meeting will be held jointly with IFMA Westchester Hudson Valley. Jim Bates, Director of Risk Management and Safety at MGM Resorts will be presenting his facility’s future plans for the MGM Resorts / Empire City Casino in Yonkers, NY. Jim has a successful track record in protecting corporate assets, mitigating and reducing claim frequency and severity in the fast paced 24 hour a day operation. He also has litigation expertise and is focused on employee growth, guest recovery, and brand development.
Following the presentation, we will be hosting a special event called Night at the Races, which will take place on the Empire Terrace, overlooking the horse track.
Yonkers Raceway & Empire City Casino: Founded in 1899 as the Empire City Trotting Club later became Yonkers Raceway an expansive property situated on 97 acres. In 2006, New York State approved the installment of video lottery terminals that would fuel the facility’s growth. In 2013, an expansion took place to add 65,000 feet of floor space, a grand entrance, two new restaurants, two bowling lanes, and new gaming space. In 2019, the New York Gaming Commission approved MGM’s acquisition of the property. Since the facility first opened, it has provided over $500 million in aid to the horseracing industry and has generated $3.5 billion for NYS Education.
